Attention:

Please note that the TV-guided Multiple Corer can only be operated upon request. Request operations with the TV-guided Multiple Corer to AWI-Logistics in sufficient time prior to the cruise.

Apart from the pure TV-system it is necessary to provide seperately the Multi Corer (MUC; tall frame with 12 tubes à 63mm) which can be borrowed e.g. at the AWI department of Geology (Dr. Jens Matthiessen).

Summary

The TV-guided Multiple Corer is a multi corer with a camera attached to it. Thereby it is possible to directly monitor the seafloor while sampling it.

Components

Apart from the pure TV-system it is necessary to provide seperately the Multicorer which can be borrowed e.g. at the AWI department of Geology (Dr. Jens Matthiessen). The TV-system consits of underwater camera, LED lights, underwater telemetry and board unit. These components are stored on board. Camera, lights and underwater telemetry must be mounted to the Multicorer individually.

Central geographical ship's position and time standard

Time synchronising is regulated via NMEA telegram from DShip.
Geographical ship's position is supplied via NMEA telegram from DShip.

Rawdata storage on board

No automatic data storage established. Raw video files have to be downloaded from the UW-camera and must be joined and converted manually. A data flow should be established for video files that were downloaded and stored at the Telemetry-Laptop.

Data archiving on land

After the cruise, the operator transfers the video files along with required meta data to AWI after consultaion with the data scientist and AWI Logistics. Then, the data (including meta data) can be extracted from https://www.pangaea.de/ (for authorized users only).
