Special scientifc requirements
Procedures and obligations for expditions with RV Polarstern have been tested for years. They are constantly improved and adapted due to consultation with the parties involved. Present circumstances may also influence or alter well adapted procedures.
The chief scientist has to apply for special needs that go beyond the standard services to AWI ship coordination. They consider whether realization is possible due to technical and financial restrictions.
Substantial changes of the proven procedures, major modifications or purchases can be presented to AWI ship coordination. The proposal will be discussed with the committee of the "Technical commission Polarstern" that meets once a year in winter.
