The purpose of this policy is to ensure safety and to maintain a safe and productive work environment for all expedition participants on board RV Polarstern by preventing accidents or other dangerous incidents that may result from smoking. Another important concern is the avoidance of second-hand smoking. This policy pertains to all scientists, logisticians, polar bear guards, helicopter pilots, aircraft crew and other passengers (hereinafter referred to as “participants “) on board.
