In DSHIP device operation should only be logged for those devices and subdevices actually used in the event. In contrast, all devices and subdevices used in an event should be registered for a device operation.

This means that devices may need to be reconfigured before logging a device operation in SENSORWeb or device operations need to be modified.

The general workflow:

  1. Configure devices and subdevices as needed in SENSOR
  2. Ask data supporter to reimport device into DSHIP
  3. Log device operation in DSHIP with corresponding subdevices activated

However, changes to already logged device operations can be made afterwards too:

  1. Configure devices and subdevices as needed in SENSOR
  2. Ask data supporter to reimport device into DSHIP
  3. Log device operation in DSHIP with corresponding subdevices activated
  4. configure devices and subdevices in SENSOR
  5. ask data supporter to reimport device into DSHIP
  6. log device operations for current state of instrument
  7. ...

Changes need to be made in the order they happened on the actual instrument, so be sure to not lag behind too much to reduce workload!!

Mounted subdevices not used in a device operation

In DSHIP

  • when logging a device operation, deselect subdevices not used in the event.
  • or modify existing device operation: see Modify entries in DSHIP
Per default, all subdevices are activated for a device operation!

Spares

  1. In SENSOR: set status of subdevices, that are not in use to 'Store'.
  2. Ask the data supporter to reimport devices into DSHIP.
  3. Log device operation in DSHIP

Advantage: Subdevices in state 'store' are not imported in DSHIP and need not be deactivated for every device operation.

Register Mount and Unmount Actions in SENSORWeb to log the version history of the device!

Moving sensors and subdevices between instruments

  1. In SENSOR: reassign subdevice to new parent device (e.g. when moving a sensor from one CTD to another, when moving a sensor from one tethered balloon to another, ...)
  2. Ask the data supporter to reimport devices into DSHIP.
  3. Log device operation in DSHIP
