    • 5-t sliding beam, ship's stern, E-deck, starboard, Hatlapa
Used for scientific operations with cables provided by decks winches with cables of 11mm or 6mm diameter.

Winches for research equipment:

  • Double-friction winch: model SFFW 149/149, manufacturer AG-Weser Seebeckwerft. The winch is installed midships astern of the superstructures on the E-deck. It is constructed for usage with 18-mm wires (single conductor wires) and 30-mm trawling cables for fishing.
  • Storage winch GE 72.1: portside storage winch for 18-mm "geo" wire (9.100 m). The winch is installed astern in front of the friction winch on E-deck. Manufacturer: KGW Schwerin.

  • Storage winch GE 52.1: Storage winch for 18.2-mm Coax / fiber optic cable (8.000 m)
The winch is equipped with pigtail for electric supply and fiber optic data transfer.

  • Storage winch GE 52.2: Storage winch for 18.2-mm Coax / fiber optic cable (8.000 m)
The winch is equipped with pigtail for electric supply and fiber optic data transfer.

  • Portside storage winch FN 62.1: Storage winch for 30-mm trawling wire (3.000 m). The winch is installed astern behind the friction winches on E-deck. Manufacturer: AG-Weser Seebeckwerft
Alternative operation of 8.000 m, 18mm "geo" wire (change of wire in Bremerhaven only).

  • Starboard side storage winch FN 62.1: Storage winch for 30-mm trawling wire (3.000 m). The winch is installed astern behind the friction winches on E-deck. Manufacturer: AG-Weser Seebeckwerft
Alternative operation of 8.000 m, 18mm "geo" wire (change of wire in Bremerhaven only).

  • 4-t winch EL 31: Winch for 11-mm Coax conductor cable (7.500 m), The winch is installed astern on E-deck. Manufacturer: AG-Weser Seebeckwerft
    Mostly used for CTD casts.

  • 4-t winch SE 32.1: Winch for 11-mm Coax conductor cable (7.000 m). The winch is installed astern on E-deck. Manufacturer: AG-Weser Seebeckwerft
    Also used for CTD casts.

  • 1-t winch SE 32.2: Winch for 6-mm dyneema rope (3.000 m). The winch is installed astern on E-deck. Manufacturer: AG-Weser Seebeckwerft
Used for small devices like Bongo-Net

  • Mobile Coax conductor winch AWI-004: Winch for 11-mm Coax conductor cable (6.000 m). The winch is installed astern on E-deck. Manufacturer: Hatlapa
Dedicated to be used for Multi-Net operations.

  • Mobile winch EL 030: Winch for 11-mm Dyneema rope (6.000 m). The winch is alternatively installed to winch AWI-004. Manufacturer: Hatlapa
    Used for ultra clean operations.

Only one of both winches AWI-004 or EL 030 can be mounted at the same time. A change between two cruises is possible, but this task may elongate harbour visit. As the second winch must be handeled as freight, the need of both winches must be ordered in form "Einsatzplanung".

  • Capstan, horizontally installed.
    Used for mooring recovery

  • Mobile winch MacArtney Cormaq Q2.
    Single conductor cable Rochester 310255: 6.4mm, 9kN SWL, length 2000 m.
Temporarily installed as backup to lower small devices through moonpool.
The winch is not permanently on board and must be ordered in form "Einsatzplanung"

The on board side sockets of Coax and fiber optic cables are installed in winch control room. The patch field sockets for electric interface are of type Lemo ERA-3E-160-CTL. Customer need corresponding plug of type Lemo FFA-3E-160-CTA.
Fiber optic sockets are of SC type (coupling from ST to SC are permanently installed).

The sockets on wet side are of following types:

  • 11mm Coax cable on winch AWI-004: SUBCONN IL2F
  • 11mm Coax cable on winches EL31 and SE32.1: SEACON RMG-2-FS
  • (18.2mm Coax cable: GISMA 3 pins, BR10, Gr 2  -  not be used anymore)
  • 18.2mm Coax / fiber optic cable: GISMA BR40, Gr 3 (GISMA 40.06.3.06.2.00)
Pin 1+2 combined for electric power, center Coax
Pin 4+5 combined for electric power, screen Coax
Pin 3 for fiber optic (main)
Pin 6 for fiber optic (backup - not in use)

Electric patch field for Coax cables and patch field for Faser Optic cable is located in winch control room.

 Telemetry:

The Fiber Optic Telemetry consists mainly of two components: the deck unit and underwater unit. Both devices can be seen as interface converters. The system is used to supply underwater devices (like sensors or camera and light) with electric power and for data transfer.
Data transfer can be established using RS232, RS485 or TCP/IP interface. Data communication is possible in both directions.

The deck unit is mounted in 19" rack in winch control room. Coax and fiber optic cables must be plugged to the corrsponding patch fields.
A test environment is established by Coax and fiber optic cables from patch field in winch control room to sockets in the wet lab II.

Also part of the system is a video camera and two lamps - see TV-guided Multiple Corer (TV-MUC).
