Allocation of accomodation and workplace is coordinated by the chief scientist.
You may express your wishes for accomodation in the Expedition Interface System. The chief scientist is in charge of allocating the cabins and will try to combine all whishes best possible.
Helicopter staff and personnel of the German Weather Service also count as scientific staff and are therefore looked after by the chief scientist as well.
Single cabins have to be saved for the 2 pilots, 2 technicians and 1 meteorologist.Single cabins are not envisaged for the other scientific participants except for the chief scientist.
- In case there is an external observer for diplomatic reasons onboard he has to be taken care of by the chief scientist as well.
Mixed-sex chamber occupancy may be possible upon consultation.
The hospital and the isolation unit have to be kept empty for legal reasons.
There is no helicopter staff onboard during the transits. However, 2 of their cabins (B208, B212) can be accomodated for logistic crew on special request if all other cabins are occupied.
The cabin of the chief pilot and the 1st technican may not be used as they are defined as permanent bureau by the supervising authority Luftfahrt Bundesamt (LBA).The cabins of the German Weather Service are not available in any case.
- 43 Crew = max. 54 expedition participants (incl. 1 German Weather Service & 4 Heli operator)
- One extra cabin (D452) is reserved for crew training personnell. Use will be announced 8 weeks before the expedition. 2 extra berth for scientists may be available if not used.
- the cabin plan is sent to AWI ship coordination by the chief scientist via email 3 weeks before the expedition starts.
