Additional measures are presently in place for AWI - expeditions. Quarantine measures are planned individually for each Polarstern expedition.

AWI - measures for expeditions:

Since 1 October 2021, only recovered or fully vaccinated persons who have received a vaccine approved in the EU may participate in expeditions organised by the AWI.
Proof of vaccination must be provided during the medical examination as part of the expedition preparation on the basis of the vaccination passport at the works medical centre.
The background is to increase safety for all participants, as well as to avoid medical evacuation.

Expedition-specific regulations:

Final rapid test for all expedition participants after 3 days if the expedition forms a closed cohort (e.g. ship or land expeditions).

Regular rapid tests for all expedition participants every 2-3 days if there is contact with the outside world (e.g. Spitsbergen flight campaigns).

For ship expeditions with a duration of more than 7 days, an Outbreak Management Plan will be prepared, which regulates all measures in case of a corona outbreak.

As usual, participants will receive details as part of the preparation for the expedition.

*****************

The hygiene concept for day trips on the small ships is laid down in the regulations for participation in trips on Uthörn, Mya II and Aade.

For day trips on FS Heincke, the hygiene concept for the small ships is valid.

For short expeditions on AWI vessels with a maximum duration of 7 days, the COVID-19 protection concept FS Heincke applies.
