Operation of the VQ580 requires experienced staff on board the aircraft.

Summary

The Airborne Laser Scanner with Online Waveform Processing (high-accuracy) provides high speed, non-contact data acquisition using a narrow near-infrared laser beam and a fast line scanning mechanism. It was especially designed to measure on snow and ice.

Components and Specifications

Besides the scanner itself operation of the laser scanner VQ580 requires an operator PC installed in a rack. For safety reasons a laser scanner key switch for easy emergency stop is also in installed in a rack.

During flight VQ580 data are stored on an external PC with the scanner specific software RiAQUIRE running.

Data archiving on land

After the flight VQ580 data are downloaded from the PC and are made accessible via the external devices file system of the land Data Managment System (DMS).
