Background information: The Multimedia Policy

Without material provided by you participants, for the rest of the world it will be as if the expedition never took place; your photos and videos are a central component of ensuring that the world learns about the expedition and related research. To provide guidelines on the use of this material, the MOSAiC Multimedia Policy must be signed by all participants:

  • By signing the Multimedia Policy, you consent to any and all images / recordings of you, including the listing of your name, being published and used by the media, both for the MOSAiC communication campaign, and in the context of the documentary that will be produced by UFA. Please note: You may only refuse to give your consent in legitimate exceptions to the rule.
  • If you share your own photographs for the communication campaign, by doing so you transfer the non-exclusive usage rights to the AWI. As the copyright holder, you retain full ownership of the images and can of course continue to use them as you see fit. This transfer of non-exclusive usage rights to the AWI is nevertheless important, because only then can your photographs be used in the communication campaign. Your name will – just like in the image metadata – also be listed as the copyright holder in the image credits, together with the AWI.
  • Images selected for the campaign by the communication team will be made available to the public under a Creative Commons license. This will ensure that your images reach as broad an audience as possible, while you are always listed as the copyright holder.
  • Transfer of video material / rights and usage according to the contract with UFA:

In keeping with the Multimedia Policy, all MOSAiC participants agree not to use any video material longer than 10 minutes on a commercial basis, or to distribute said material for commercial purposes.

  • By agreeing to limit the commercial use of privately created video material, you will help MOSAiC, in the form of a TV documentary, to achieve the greatest possible reach and attention.
  • By agreeing to adhere to the Social Media Guidelines / Code of Conduct, you will help to ensure that the expedition is a success in international social networks.

If you have any questions, please consult the Media Coordinator on board or the MOSAiC communication team (media@mosaic-expedition.org).

You can find the policy for informational purposes below, every expedition participant has to sign it - together with other policies - during the preparation phase in Tromsø.
