Attention:
Canon Digital Cameras are not used with the BT-67 Polar Research Aircraft anymore but are replaced by the Nikon D5 cameras. They are however continously used for airborne research with helicopters.
Summary
Canon EOS 1D Mark III is a 10.1 megapixel digital single lens reflex camera (DSLR) camera. It is used to continously take overlapping pictures of the earth surface or the clouds below the aircraft. Rarely they are installed in an upward looking position. A Canon 14mm lens or a SIGMA 8mm Fisheye lens are available. The optional WFT-E2 wireless adapter allowes the addition of a GPS unit and wired PC connectivity. The cameras are controlled from an operator PC installed in a rack.
