Attention:

Magnetic compensation flight procedures are required after each new installation of the magnetic sensors.

Summary

Magnetic measurements provide the direction of the geomagnetic field. Therefore, 2 Cesium Magnetometers are installed in a nose boom and a tail boom to the aircraft. In addition, a Fluxgate Magnetometer for attitude compensation is installed. The sensor system is controlled by an external unit (AADC II) mounted in a rack. Magnetic base stations with Overhauser magnetometers are used for ground reference of the airborne measurements.

Rawdata storage on board

During flight magnetometer data are stored within the aircraft onboard DMS system. Magnetic base stations record data independantly and continously.

Data archiving on land

After the flight CS-3 and Fluxgate magnetometer data are accessible via the land system of the aircraft data managment system (DMS). Base station data of the GEM Overhauser magnetometers are downloaded frequently and are made accessible via the external devices file system of the aircraft data managment system (DMS).
