As part of the SDI Standard Operating Procedures data gets harmonized for viewing and filtering purposes.

Data harmonization uses expert/scientist input to map existing metadata (parameter names, method/device, and unit) to a standard vocabulary (esp. NERC). This process is called Mapping.
