SENSOR is based on the OGC standard SensorML (and device descriptions are downloadable in XML or JSON format). SENSOR also provides an API to export (and import) data programmatically. Two instances of SENSOR - one on Polarstern and one at AWI Bremerhaven-  will run simultaneously throughout the expedition. They are synchronised on different levels throughout the day as long as network connection permits.Due to the improved internet connectivity there is onle one SENSOR instance available online via https://sensor.awi.de/

Data Contacts

Every group has assigned chief editors for their devices. They are your first contacts concerning SENSOR related questions. You find them here:

...

  • All scientific intstruments and sampling devices used on the expedtion must be registered in SENSOR!
  • The Polarstern instance of SENSOR can be accessed via httphttps://sensor.fs-polarsternawi.de/ (**)
  • This is were you may work on while being on the ship, if network connection allows.
  • Modifications made on Polarstern are directly transferred to the AWI. When entering the editing mode on Polarstern all data is sent from SENSOR.awi.de (*), which is why modifications onboard mean long loading times. It is therefore highly recommended to enter all specifications before the expedition . as internet connectivity is not always guaranteed
  • If network connection fails and you have urgent needs to make changes to your devices you may contact the data supporter. The same applies if you have to make the changes to a lot of devices.SENSORWeb on Polarstern is synchronised with the land system every 10 min.

Metadata registered in SENSOR include the following:

Note

IMPORTANT!!!

  • ONLY devices which are set to 'Public' and have the contact 'polarstern dship'  with the role 'dship connector' will be accessible via the DShip Actionlog (**).
  • Device operations entered in the DShip Actionlog (**) will appear under 'Actions' in SENSOR. Still, choice of available actions types is limited in SENSOR and therefore several action types in DShip are associated with the same action type in SENSOR.
