Please note that the Giant Box Corer can only be operated upon request. Request operations with the Giant Box Corer to AWI-Geology and AWI-Logistics in sufficient time prior to the cruise. Operations of the system require experienced scientific staff on board. The system is not operated by the ship's crew.

The Giant Box Corer samples a comparable large area of the sediment surface (50 x 50 cm) with minimal disturbance and collects a large block of sediment up to 60 cm below the sea floor. This gear is particularly useful for quantitative investigations of the benthic micro- to macrofauna.
