Note
titleAttention:

Please note that operations of the DESY Myon Detector requires experienced scientific staff on board. The system is not operated by the ship's crew. Announce operations with the DESY Myon Detector to AWI-Logistics prior to the cruise and clarify the data transfer after the cruise.

In case of a system failure just reboot the computer (switch on). The data acquisition program will start automatically.

All components are in the Aerologie lab (A-108). The system consits of 2 sensor boxes, a data acquisiton system, GPS antenna and a netbook (Linux, Xubuntu 10.04).
In each sensor box is a scintillator, which emits scintillation light when charged particles transmit. The light is transmitted to the photosensor (silicium-photomultiplier by Hamamatsu) via optical fiber. A HV module within the box converts the 5V input power supply to the supply voltage of 70V for the photomultiplier. The signal of the photomultiplier is transmitted to the data acquisition unit. The data acquisition unit needs a 5V power supply, provides the 5V power supply for the sensor boxes, amplifies and links the signals from both boxes, produces and transfers data files via USB cable to the netbook, and faciltiates an input port for signal transmission from the GPS box.
The data acquisition unit and the GPS box are connected via LAN cable. The antenna is mounted in the corridor above the window.

??? After the cruise, the operator transfers the measurement data along with required meta data to AWI after consultaion with the data scientist and AWI Logistics. Then, the data (including meta data) can be extracted from https://www.pangaea.de/ (for authorized users only). Offline data processing is conducted with ship's position and weather data via time stamp ???
