Components and Specifications
The EM-Bird FMCW snow system comprises the EM-Bird itself, which is lowered to the ice during flight. For deployment a winch is installed inside the aircraft. Power supply unit and operator PC are located on the wincha transmitting and a receiving horn antenna. A rackmount unit containing the electronics is installed close to the antennas. The installation also comprises an amplifier and a cooling unit. The system is operated from an external PC.
